MAKING A DIFFERENCE THROUGH WORSHIP
You could say that worship is Central
at Central Christian. It’s when the church comes together to share in the story
of Christ through song, scripture, preaching, and communion. Each week we are
reminded of the goodness of God and inspired to participate in His work in the
world. Even though the styles of worship may vary from one service to another,
it’s not the style of worship that drives us – it’s being together, sharing our
lives, and expressing the work God is doing in our midst.

In keeping up with the technology age, you can also listen to some of our
sermons and other podcasts in iTunes by clicking on the button above.
WEEKLY SERVICES
To accommodate the size of our
congregation and to express our worship in complimentary ways, we offer three
distinct services:
-
Sunday Morning Worship at 8:00
am:
Our early Sunday morning service is traditional in nature. Our Bunn-Minnick
organ fills the sanctuary with sound. The
Chancel Choir sings on the first Sunday of
each month, September through June. Great hymns of faith, an inspirational
sermon, and communion are all a part of this service.
-
"Feed My Lambs" (coffee and
visiting) 9:00-9:30 am:
Each Sunday morning we serve coffee, tea, juice and often a continental
style breakfast in the Gathering Room of the church.
-
Sunday School / Elective Classes
9:30-10:20 am:
Sunday morning classes are offered for every age level --
younger children,
teens, and
adults -- to participate in. Nursery care is
provided during this time. Our younger children participate in Rotation Sunday School
on the 2nd floor of the education building, our Junior High and High School
students meet in the Youth Center, and there is a variety of adult elective
classes which are offered.
- Sunday Morning Worship at 10:30 am:
During this service we blend the best of traditional and new songs of faith.
The Choir sings each Sunday, except the first Sunday of each month, when our
worship band, Fusion, plays. We offer a
Children’s Moment with the pastor and
then dismiss children, ages 5-grade 4, to participate in their own worship
called Children Worship & Wonder. Children grades 5-8 are invited to the
Balcony Class to participate in the service together and discuss elements of the
service and sermon with an adult leader. An inspirational sermon and communion
are a part of this service.
- Fusion Band Services for
Tuesdays Together 6:30 pm:
The
Fusion Band leads a contemporary service on the 4th Tuesday night each
month of the Tuesday’s Together program. Drums, guitars, bass, keyboard, and
vocalists lead in singing new songs of faith. We share communion together and
informally discuss issues related to living the Christian faith in the world.
SPECIAL SERVICES
- Community Martin Luther King Jr. Day Service
This is a community worship service that Central Christian Church participates
in, but the service is not held at our church.
- Palm Sunday
The Sunday before Easter is the beginning of the Christian Holy Week. It
celebrates Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. On
this Sunday, the choir presents a Cantata at both services. Palm branches are
given out at each service.
- Maundy Thursday
Commonly known as Holy Thursday, Maundy Thursday commemorates the last supper
of Christ with his Disciples. A special Maundy Thursday service is held at
7:00pm on the Thursday before Easter.
- 24-Hour Prayer Vigil
On Good Friday, we host a 24-hour prayer vigil.
- Easter Sunday
Easter Sunday is one of the holiest of Christian holidays as we celebrate the
resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Chancel Choir performs at both services and
Children's Choir performs at 10:30am worship service.
- Wedding Bell Service
On the first Sunday in June, we conduct one combined worship service where
married couples have the opportunity to renew their vows as a group. This is a
celebration of the union of marriage whether couples are newlyweds or
celebrating into decades of being married.
- All Saints Day
This service incorporates the lighting of candles in remembrance of loved ones
who have passed on since last year's All Saints Observance. We also light
candles to honor the members of our church who have 50 or more years of
membership.
- Hanging Of The Greens
To kick off the holiday season on the first Advent Sunday, we have a special
Sunday evening service at 7:00pm called "Hanging of the Greens". At this
service we tell the Christmas Story and sing old familiar carols while
transforming our lovely sanctuary into a beautiful Christmas Wonderland. Prior
to the service, we have a carry-in dinner and then after the service we adjourn to Fellowship Hall for light refreshments and an opportunity to visit
with others. Bring your family, friends and neighbors to enjoy this meaningful
traditional evening and get the holiday season off to a great start!
- Advent Sundays
With the help of our children, the candles on the Advent Wreath will be lit at
both services. During these services we will also be hearing the scripture and
readings about the birth of Jesus.
- Christmas Eve Services
7:00pm - This Christmas Eve service is particularly child friendly and
is always a wonderful and meaningful way for families to share in the true
meaning of Christmas as their faith develops. A Christmas pageant, and upbeat
contemporary music is offered to enjoy and celebrate the season.
11:00pm - This candlelight service of Lessons and Carols includes
special music from our Chancel Choir and readings from members of our
congregation as we celebrate the birth of Christ with communion and worship.
