Central Christian Church prides itself on its exceptional church office staff, but recognizes the dedicated efforts of its committees that help to ensure that all bases are covered in the church operations and missions. Here is a list of the many committees that operate within the church:

Official Board

The general business of the congregation is conducted by an Official Board. This Board is composed of the Elders, Diaconate, Trustees, the Church School Superintendent, and a representative of the Women’s Fellowship, Men’s Fellowship and the Youth Group. Read recent board meeting minutes here.

Executive Committee

This is a functional committee of the church chaired by the minister which meets monthly at 7:30pm on the first Tuesday of each month. The Executive Committee functions as the personnel committee and in conjunction with the Official Board makes decisions and occasionally makes recommendations to the congregation.

Senior Minister's Pastoral Relations

This committee is charged with ensuring communication between the Senior Minister and the congregation stays as healthy as possible. The members of the committee are appointed by the Chairman of the Congregation and the Senior Minister.

Associate Minister's Pastoral Relations

This committee is charged with ensuring communication between the Associate Minister and the congregation stays as healthy as possible. The members of this committee are appointed by the Chairman of the Congregation and the Associate Minister.

Trustees

Trustees are elected to three year terms by the congregation and empowered by the Church Constitution and By-Laws to be the Legal Agents of the Congregation. Trustees also oversee the upkeep and maintenance of the physical church building.

Finance Committee

Appointed by the Chairman of the Congregation, this committee is charged with overseeing the financial well being of the congregation.

Investment Oversight

Appointed by the Chairman of the Congregation, this committee is charged with making recommendations to the Finance Committee regarding the church's invested funds.

Audit Committee

Once every two years the church has an audit of our financial records completed by our accounting firm. Members of this committee review audit recommendations and enact procedures accordingly.

Assistant Treasurers

Created from an audit recommendation, this group of church members serve by adding their signatures as second signatures to all outgoing checks. This creates a checks and balance system which eliminates error in our finances.

Bereavement

This committee provides a meal for families following funerals and memorial services, usually at the church. They are always looking for volunteers to help prepare and serve the food.

Nominating Committee

Appointed by the Chairman of the Congregation, this committee is charged with securing nominations for officers for the church. Some of the officers they seek each year are Elders, who are charged with overseeing the spiritual well-being of the congregation and serve as members of the Official Board; Deacons, who are charged with serving and preparing communion and serving as members of the Official Board; Stewards, who are charged with preparing and serving communion; and the Trustees.

Decorating Committee (permanent projects)

This committee makes recommendations to the Trustees regarding the permanent fixtures and furniture around the church. They are appointed by the Chairman of the Congregation.

Decorating Committee (holiday projects)

This committee oversees the decoration of the sanctuary for holidays throughout the church year. Some of the special days include Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Wedding Bells Service, Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are always in need of helpers!

Christian Education

Chaired by the Associate Pastor of Spiritual Formation, the Christian Education committee seeks to develop and implement educational opportunities for all ages.

Welcome Ministry

Central Christian has developed its own personalized touch to welcoming guests to our church. This committee organizes greeters for Sunday services, literature about our church for guests, guided tours of the church, and updates to the church website. All efforts are meant to better acquaint new guests with our building, programs, ministries, and heart. We hope to build on the already friendly attitudes and faces at Central Christian in a bit more formal manner to make sure no one is missed, while allowing people the freedom to be as 'known' as they would like to be. We want to give folks the opportunity to learn more about us without being forceful or fake in our attempt to welcome them.

175th Anniversary Planning

Central Christian Church is planning for its 175 year anniversary celebration in the year 2010. A committee has been formed to commemorate this milestone for our congregation, and plan various special services and events through the year so that everyone can join in this historic time!

Elders

The Elders are the spiritual leaders of the congregation. They are elected by the congregation to serve three year terms. There is no limit to how many terms an elder may serve. Elders serve the church in many ways. One of the most visible is when they pray at the communion table each Sunday. Elders also make calls on people when they are in the hospital, in nursing homes, or have a special need. Elders each have a vote on the Official Board of the congregation.

Deacons (The Diaconate)

The members of the Diaconate are those who serve the congregation in many ways. They are elected by the congregation to serve a three year term and there is no limit to how many terms they may serve. Diaconate members serve in a variety of ways – some prepare the communion trays each Sunday, some serve communion and pass the offering plates, and some clean up after worship services. Members of the Diaconate have a vote on the Official Board of the congregation.

Stewards

Stewards are those who serve the congregation in many of the same ways as the Diaconate, but they do not have a vote on the Official Board. They also are elected by the congregation to three year terms.
